Creative Arts

We want to ensure that all students have the opportunity to explore a range of creative materials, technologies and processes, to express their ideas, thoughts and emotions, by developing their imagination and problem solving and critical thinking skills. For students to recognise that they can confidently create outcomes in a safe, inspiring environment and are encouraged to explore and push boundaries, to make sense of the world and society they experience, to challenge existing concepts and maximise their potential by making, refining and producing creative work. High quality creative Arts, Design & Technology makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well being of the nation.

Creativity takes courage

The Key Stage 3 curriculum provides opportunities for students to work within Art, Design Technology and Food Technology. Students will build on experiences throughout the 3 years, developing knowledge and understanding of a range of materials and processes. In Art this covers 2d and 3d techniques to engage, inspire and challenge students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. This includes processes such as drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and mixed media. Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real problems within a variety of contexts. This includes exploring manufacturing processes using textiles, electronics, smart materials, wood, metal and plastics. Food technology develops practical cooking skills, whilst applying principles of nutrition and healthy eating, learning a crucial life skill.

At Key Stage 4, students have the opportunity to study in 4 different areas of Creative Arts. We offer GCSE Art, 3D Design, Design Technology and Level1/2 Vocational award in Hospitality and Catering. These areas build and develop on the skills and knowledge acquired at key stage 3, but with greater focus on independent learning. There is a balance of practical and theoretical work in all areas.
