Mathematics
What is mathematics? It is only a systematic effort of solving puzzles posed by nature
Shakuntala Devi
Maths is a broad and wonderful subject. So we build strong foundations and support our students to grow in their understanding, confidence and love of maths.
In Key stage three, we work with our students to build strong foundations in Algebra, develop understanding of properties of shapes, secure understanding of number and apply this throughout other areas of Maths and to become more independent in representing and analysing data. By Key stage four we focus on developing these foundations to equip our students to be successful in their GCSE’s and beyond. Together we develop algebra skills and apply them in different contexts, learning problem solving skills and applying formula in geometry questions and develop understanding and range of skills to represent and analyse data.
The Exam Board we study is OCR
There are three papers at GCSE, each lasting one and a half hours.
The first and final papers require a calculator and the middle exam is non-calculator.
Students will be entered for either the Higher or Foundation exam. Students will be aware of this before the examination period.
