Geography

The Geography Department is passionate about delivering an exciting, ambitious curriculum that sparks curiosity and drives students to explore the world’s diverse environments, cultures, and societies through the unique lens of a geographer. We empower students to see their roles in shaping the future, inspiring them to believe in their ability to make a real difference - both locally and globally. Our goal is to create informed, confident global citizens, ready to take action and tackle the challenges of today’s world while fostering a sense of belonging to something far greater than themselves.

Geography explains the past, illuminates the present, and prepares us for the future

At Key Stage 3, we teach the National Curriculum, offering a broad introduction to both physical and human geography. Our spiral designed curriculum allows students to connect, link, and build upon prior knowledge and skills, reinforcing their understanding as they move through the school. We have a number of threads and concepts which run within our topics, such as sustainability, development and interconnectedness. Each unit creates ‘readiness’ for the next unit. This structure encourages students to deepen learning and continually expand their geographical understanding and intrigue.

At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA GCSE Geography course, exploring themes such as natural hazards, the living world, urban challenges, the changing economic world, and the challenges of resource management. We offer a range of fieldwork opportunities that bring the subject to life, helping students believe in their own abilities as they hypothesize, investigate and answer enquiry questions to better understand real-world places and geographical scenarios.

Geography students leave Middlewich High School equipped to aspire to careers in fields such as environmental science, conservation, urban planning, and global development, ready to make a positive impact on the world.
