Geography
Geography explains the past, illuminates the present, and prepares us for the future
Paul Claval
At Key Stage 3, we teach the National Curriculum, offering a broad introduction to both physical and human geography. Our spiral designed curriculum allows students to connect, link, and build upon prior knowledge and skills, reinforcing their understanding as they move through the school. We have a number of threads and concepts which run within our topics, such as sustainability, development and interconnectedness. Each unit creates ‘readiness’ for the next unit. This structure encourages students to deepen learning and continually expand their geographical understanding and intrigue.
At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA GCSE Geography course, exploring themes such as natural hazards, the living world, urban challenges, the changing economic world, and the challenges of resource management. We offer a range of fieldwork opportunities that bring the subject to life, helping students believe in their own abilities as they hypothesize, investigate and answer enquiry questions to better understand real-world places and geographical scenarios.
Geography students leave Middlewich High School equipped to aspire to careers in fields such as environmental science, conservation, urban planning, and global development, ready to make a positive impact on the world.
