Enrichment

Middlewich High School offers a diverse and varied programme of extra curriculum activities to help children develop skills and passions beyond the classroom.

Extra-Curriculum

Middlewich High School is proud to offer a diverse and varied programme of extra-curricular activities. School and learning opportunities do not stop at 3.10pm and we encourage all our students to engage with our enrichment activities. Some of these activities will enable students to extend their curriculum learning, whilst other clubs and activities will enable students to experience things for the first time, which always creates excitement and intrigue.

We strongly encourage students to participate in all that school has to offer, so that they can further develop their skillset and understanding of their place in the modern world. Enrichment activities provide so many opportunities for students to access this Education with Character and that is why we offer such a comprehensive programme, with clubs running after school and at  lunch times.

On top of our programme of clubs and activities, many curriculum areas have educational visits planned and we also participate in a wide range of sporting fixtures with and against other Cheshire West and East schools.

If your child has any interests in activities beyond those displayed below, please encourage them to speak to their form tutors or ACL’s to put their ideas across, as we are always keen to hear from Student Voice.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Bronze Award is open to all Year 9 students, who are interested in and committed to completing their Bronze Award at Middlewich High School. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an exciting and challenging programme of non-competitive, voluntary activities leading to a nationally recognised qualification. Participants are encouraged to develop those personal qualities of self-reliance, leadership, responsibility, confidence and perseverance that will help them throughout their lives and are so highly valued by universities and employers.

The Elements of the Bronze Award

Students will need to complete three sections to complete their Bronze Award. Two sections must be done for three months and one section for six months:

  • Physical Recreation – Taking part regularly in a physical activity
  • Skills – Development of a skill or skills that improve your ability to do something
  • Volunteering – Provide a regular and reliable commitment to an organisation in the local community.

Students should ensure that they choose activities they are interested in and receive training from an appropriate adult.  They must fully comply with the requirements of the Award, which are set out clearly on the DofE website www.dofe.org Students will receive their pack once accepted, but should start thinking about what they would like to do for their activities before they apply.

Students will also complete an expedition they will need to train, prepare for and complete a physically demanding journey in a small group over two days, with one night’s camping. Middlewich High School staff members will accompany each expedition to provide additional support across the two days.
